Dreams Chasing: A Journey Between Dream and Reality

Peihe Xie's Life and Art Showroom: A Unique Exploration of Space and Form

Everyone has a dream, which is an illusory yet real experience. Dreams provide more space for people to think about infinity, transcending the boundaries of real space, chasing, exploring and conquering in dreams while looking backward at the self and superego in personality. This is the inspiration behind Dreams Chasing, a design that encourages contemplation in real life.

The unique properties of Dreams Chasing lie in its versatile geometry. By refining the volume of the form, the design functions as a division of space while remaining independent from it. The arc-shaped form adds fun to the space that is filled with tension, and the missing hole not only implies the beginning of each unknown space, but also allows the spaces to penetrate each other. A sloping wall seems to point to an unknown edge, guiding viewers into a world between dream and reality.

The design was realized using concrete, white latex paint, black latex paint, and plastic flooring. The project area is 480 sqm and is primarily used for displaying furniture and mattresses. The design team, led by Chief designer Xie Peihe, explored the diverse meanings of showroom space under the condition of limited space structure through the concept of "taking objects as reality, space as virtual, and dreams as the world".

The project was completed in December 2018 in Shantou, Guangdong Province, China. The design process involved decomposing and reconstructing the original space, creating spaces of different shapes and interconnections, thus blurring the boundaries of space. The biggest challenge was to explore the diverse meanings of showroom space under the condition of limited space structure.

Dreams Chasing was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
